In 2008, G Shafer Architecture worked on a project for the Houston Zoo, assisting in the design and renovation of the zoo's African Forest Exhibit.
The project team worked closely with the zoo's animal care and exhibit design teams to create a habitat that provided a comfortable and engaging environment for the zoo's African bush elephants while also providing educational and entertainment value for visitors. The exhibit incorporated sustainable design elements, such as a bioclimatic design that took advantage of natural air circulation and lighting, and the use of locally sourced and recycled materials.
